Description

The Waiting, Sub provides a satellite area with the space and amenities required for patients and their visitors / support persons to wait within a unit, close to procedure/imaging rooms, consult rooms or offices.

Up to 24 hours (dependent on unit operating hours)

up to 5 patients / visitors;

Additional Considerations

~ The size of waiting areas can vary depending on service requirements; add 1.2m2 per additional person and allow 1.5m2 for additional wheelchair spaces as required. ~ A range of occupants will need to be accommodated including adults, children, able-bodied persons and people with disabilities. In many instances bariatric capacity will also be required. ~ Consider furniture options including weight rating of all chairs and providing built-in furniture or securing furniture where there may be safety/security concerns. ~ Wall protection is recommended to protect wall linings and finishes from damage due to movement of loose furniture. ~ An operational model for responding to calls from staff/patients will be needed to support the inclusion of a nurse call system and is to be determined based on service requirements. ~ Mobile duress coverage is to be assessed and planned at a department level and coverage is to suit local security and WHS policies and operational service requirements. ~ Hand hygiene facilities, such as alcohol-based hand rub, should be provided in line with local infection prevention and control (IPC) policies.
