Additional Considerations
~ This Standard Component assumes direct access to Operating Rooms and that it is multiplied as a module to serve Operating Rooms that are planned in a row – with the end of the room to be enclosed once modules are combined. Where sterile stock storage is centralised and transported through corridors to Operating Rooms. This room is to be enclosed (size, FF&E, and services increased according to number of Operating Rooms to be served), and door arrangements are to be adjusted to suit. ~ Sterile stock is to be stored in shelving compliant with AS 5369, this may be provided as either static units, single mobile units and/or as a compactus. If a compactus is to be used, depending on the product selected and the materials it is made from, structural engineering advice may need to be sought to ensure adequate load-bearing capacity and potential deflection effect on walls, doors, etc. ~ Storage solutions must support consumable items to be stored separately (i.e. in different shelving units) to reusable medical devices (RMDs) as per AS 5369. ~ The size, quantity and type of storage solution will vary to suit service requirements. Additional shelving units require an approximate area of 1m2 per unit (assumes 900W x 400D x 2100H unit with space in front to access). ~ Storage height to be limited to 520mm min below ceiling to meet fire sprinkler system requirements within AS 2118.1. ~ A clearance of 1100mm is recommended to be provided for circulation spaces within Store – Sterile Stock to facilitate movement of trolleys and staff. ~ Configuration of computer workstations (bench mounted, wall mounted on articulated brackets, and/or workstations on wheels) is to be confirmed to suit service requirements and local ICT policies. ~ Provision of automated doors to access this store from the corridor to be confirmed by project to suit service requirements and operational policies. ~ Light fixtures to be sealed and flush-mounted to minimise opportunity for dust accumulation and ensure ease of cleaning. ~ Depending on proximity of this room to the Operating room and the use of x-ray equipment during procedures, radiation shielding may be required to some walls of this room and is to be assessed by a Radiation Consultant.
