SPECT-CT Imaging Room

Standard Area50
Ceiling Height3000mm

Briefing

Description
The SPECT-CT Imaging Room provides the area and facilities for Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) scanning procedures with an adjacent Control Room and Equipment Room. The SPECT-CT Imaging Room will be located with ready access to patient dosing areas.
Hours of Operation
8am to 8pm, daily (dependent on unit operating hours)
Occupancy
1 patient; up to 3 staff assisting
Additional Considerations
~ Cable pathways for services between the Control Room, Equipment Room and Imaging Room must be established and coordinated prior to construction and developed based on vendor requirements. ~ Equipment is to be installed to manufacturer's specifications with sufficient clearances for maintenance access. ~ The SPECT-CT Imaging Room must be adequately shielded to ensure that radiation doses to surrounding areas do not exceed radiation dose limits and satisfy design/dose constraints. Where shielding significantly increases the weight of the doors, automatic doors may be considered. Radiation shielding is to be as advised by a qualified Radiation Consultant to suit the practice, workload and equipment procured, and all shielding on the Standard Component is indicative only. ~ Configuration of medical gases is to be confirmed to meet clinical requirements such as the provision of anaesthetic services. ~ Dimmable lights are recommended and are to be placed to avoid glare to patients. ~ Back lit ceiling artwork may be installed for patient comfort. ~ 'X-ray in Use' lights are required outside each entry door. ~ Room temperature and humidity control is required. Temperature requirements for equipment are to be confirmed by the vendor, including requirement for circulated cooling water. ~ The need for and extent of emergency power and UPS must be reviewed to suit site specific requirements. UPS power is required to the SPECT-CT scanning and control equipment. Other emergency power and UPS requirements to be confirmed based on risk assessment considering the impact of a power outage on patient care/safety. Some models of SPECT/CT require three phase power to be supplied. ~ Structural assessment is required to ensure the floor will be rigid with no vibration and will accommodate the weight of the SPECT-CT unit. ~ Consideration needs to be given to the clearances of equipment and replacement part delivery routes. ~ Where a service is may be performing minor interventional procedures, a Type A handwashing basin will be required instead of Type B.
