Additional Considerations
~ This Standard Component is provided as a module that would be multiplied in an open plan arrangement. The number of workstations will be determined at a project level to suit service requirements and staffing profile. Shared elements that are not provided at each workstation, e.g. fixed duress in central location, nurse call annunciators, storage, etc. must be considered when modules are combined. ~ Depending on the overall layout when workstation modules are combined, services may be wall mounted for each individual workstation or soft-wired cable trays may be provided and connected to a central point where power and data are wall mounted or delivered via an umbilical/pole from the ceiling or floor. ~ The size, quantity and configuration of computer display screens is to be finalised based on reviewing and reporting task requirements (e.g. number of application windows to be viewed concurrently) and ergonomic considerations. ~ Display screens shown on desk mounted brackets may be wall mounted. Ensure appropriate in-wall support is provided where display screens are to be wall mounted. Where monitors are wall mounted, interaction with height adjustable desks and distances to services connections must be considered. Flexible monitor positioning is vital to ensure adjustments are possible to meet the ergonomic requirements of different users. ~ Emerging technology, and its implications for the space, are to be considered. This may include investigating potential hardware, software and process changes that may, for example, result in the inclusion of additional display screens or CPUs, and the ergonomic, services and construction requirements for accommodating these changes in the future (e.g. supports in the wall for mounting, provision for installing additional services, etc.). ~ A large PACS display screen may be provided to be shared between multiple workstations for collaborative image reviewing by teams. Screen sharing capabilities from each workstation would be required to support this. ~ Type and number of data connections for display screens to be confirmed to suit service and equipment requirements (cat-6 data, HDMI, etc.). ~ Provision of height adjustable workstations or fixed joinery is to be in line with service requirements and local WHS policies. ~ A modesty panel or an extended acoustic panel to the back of the workstation may be required depending on the layout developed for multiple workstations. ~ It is recommended by RANZCR that the light level of the room is able to be lowered to 20-40 lux. The combination of dimmable general room lighting, dimmable indirect lighting (wall and/or ceiling fixtures), and the use of FF&E items such as back lit monitors and keyboards, as well as any light from external sources (e.g. from corridor through glazing), is to be assessed to ensure the overall quality of light in the room is appropriate. Removal of any potential sources of glare on the computer screens is required to ensure it meets requirements for the performance of reviewing and reporting tasks. Each workstation is to have, to the extent possible, independent control for lighting effecting that workstation. ~ Acoustic wall panels and screens shown are indicative and acoustic treatment of the overall room with multiple workstations is to be considered as a whole when designing to mitigate noise transfer between workstations and from adjacent areas. ~ The heat generated by computer equipment is to be considered when determining the air-conditioning requirements for this room. ~ Storage spaces for staff property and stationery may be allocated separately to be shared between multiple workstations. ~ An annunciator for nurse calls may be located to be shared between multiple workstations depending on overall service requirements. ~ Depending on the location of the room containing Reporting Workstations, access control (e.g. via proximity card reader) may be provided to ensure staff only access and the inclusion of a fixed duress button that is accessible in a central location to all workstations may be required to support staff safety. ~ Hours of operation depend on the service in which this room is located. Ambulatory medical imaging services may only operate during business hours or extended business hours, some small hospital services may have an on-call, after-hours service. Large units are likely to provide a 24-hour service, especially where a satellite service is provided with an emergency department. ~ Requirement for shielding to this room will be determined by the arrangement of the overall department floor plan and proximity of the Reporting Room to imaging modalities. Radiation shielding requirements are to be assessed and advised by a qualified Radiation Consultant. ~ The need for and extent of emergency power must be reviewed to suit site specific requirements and confirmed based on risk assessment considering the impact of a power outage on patient care/safety.
