PET-CT Imaging Room

Standard Area50
Ceiling Height3000mm

Briefing

Description
The PET-CT Imaging Room provides the area and facilities for Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography (PET/CT) scanning procedures with a Control Room and Equipment Room (as required) located nearby.
Hours of Operation
8am to 8pm, daily (dependent on unit operating hours)
Occupancy
1 patient; up to 3 staff assisting
Additional Considerations
~ It is not essential that the control is directly adjacent to the Imaging Room where patients are monitored via observation cameras, however ready access is required to attend to patient needs. If the Control Room is adjacent an observation window may be provided and shielding requirements will need to be confirmed. ~ Cable pathways for services between the Control Room, Equipment Room and Imaging Room must be established and coordinated prior to construction and developed based on vendor requirements. ~ Equipment is to be installed to manufacturer's specifications with sufficient clearances for maintenance access and support structure as required. ~ The PET-CT Imaging Room must be adequately shielded to ensure that radiation doses to surrounding areas do not exceed radiation dose limits and satisfy design/dose constraints. Radiation shielding is to be as advised by a qualified Radiation Consultant to suit the practice, workload and equipment procured, and all shielding on the Standard Component is indicative only. ~ Configuration of medical gases is to be confirmed to meet clinical requirements such as the provision of anaesthetic services. ~ Dimmable lights are recommended and are to be placed to avoid glare to patients. ~ Back lit ceiling artwork may be installed for patient comfort. ~ 'X-ray in Use' lights are required outside each entry door. ~ Laser marker system for procedure planning may be required subject to model of care and equipment selected. ~ Structural assessment is required to ensure the floor will be rigid with no vibration and will accommodate the weight of the PET-CT unit. ~ Room temperature and humidity control is required. Temperature requirements for equipment are to be confirmed by the vendor, including requirement for circulated cooling water. ~ The need for and extent of emergency power and UPS must be reviewed to suit site specific requirements. UPS power is required to the PET-CT scanning and control equipment. Other emergency power and UPS requirements to be confirmed based on risk assessment considering the impact of a power outage on patient care/safety. ~ An optional laser system for patient positioning and procedure planning has been indicated and may be provided subject to service requirements. A mix of respiratory gating, surface guidance, motion management and/or patient position technologies may be considered depending on clinical/service requirements (e.g. for radiation therapy planning). The provision of these technologies is to be confirmed by the project and may have additional requirements including additional power/data, water cooling, heat load, possible increased set down, increased number of trenches/conduits, space requirements for computer cabinets in control room and additional penetrations through the suspended ceiling. Requirements to be confirmed with vendors. ~ Consideration needs to be given to the clearances of equipment and replacement part delivery routes.
