Briefing

Description
The Exit Bay provides area for patients and equipment to be moved from the Operating Room at the conclusion of a procedure. The Exit Bay provides space for the temporary storage of a patient bed while a procedure is in progress. Direct access to the Operating Room is required.
Hours of Operation
Up to 24 hours
Occupancy
accessed by staff intermittently
Additional Considerations
~ Automated doors with motion or elbow activation are provided to the Operating Room from the Exit Bay. Buttons/sensors should be appropriately located in relation to the door, including consideration for approach and movement of patients on beds and mobile equipment. 2-gang buttons that support the opening of either one or both leaves of the door as required are desirable. ~ A cupboard for digital operating room (DOR) ICT/AV equipment is indicated on the layout but is not included in the overall area measurement and the contents of the ICT/AV cupboard are not captured in this Standard Component. The size of the ICT/AV cupboard will vary depending on equipment to be accommodated. Rather than being located individually to each Operating Room, ICT/AV equipment may be consolidated in a room that is shared between a number of Operating Rooms as appropriate to suit equipment installation, testing and maintenance requirements. ~ Medical gas valve boxes for each Operating Room are typically located in the associated Exit Bay. Size and location of the medical gas valve box zone, to be kept clear of all other services, is to be confirmed by a medical gas engineering consultant. ~ Height and type of wall finish to suit local infection prevention and control policies and rigorous cleaning regimes. Provision and height of corner guards as required to provide protection from anticipated mobile equipment movement. ~ Depending on the use of x-ray equipment within the adjacent Operating Room, radiation shielding may be required to this room and is to be assessed by a Radiation Consultant.
