Communications Room

Standard Area15
Ceiling Height2700mm

Briefing

Description
A secure room for engineering services to accommodate racks, backbone cabling and interface control panels for information and communication systems. Systems may include master antenna television (MATV), internet protocol television (IPTV), nurse call, security, telecommunications, building management system (BMS) and Fire/EWIS systems.
Hours of Operation
24 hours
Occupancy
1-2 persons intermittently;
Additional Considerations
~ The area shown is indicative; the size of the Communications Room will vary according to engineering consultant advice based on systems to be accommodated. ~ Head end units for security, nurse call, BMS, TMV, IPTV/MATV to be accommodated as required. ~ Equipment located in this room will require uninterruptible power fed from the essential supply (generator). ~ Dedicated air conditioning that is monitored by the Building Management System (BMS) is required ~ Provide adequate lighting to ensure visibility to both front and rear of racks. ~ The configuration of power and data (i.e., wall mounted or ceiling mounted services) to supply the racks is to be determine base on the room layout and equipment selected. ~ The Communication Room must be located such that it is not susceptible to possible water damage or excessive electromagnetic interference. Water or gas pipes must not pass through a Communication Room. ~ Where a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) for in-building mobile reception is provided, the telco carrier base station equipment is to be located in the Communications Room. Refer to telco for spatial requirements to determine sizing of the Communications Room. A DAS shall conform to the most recent edition of the Mobile Carriers Forum Design Specification for Distributed Antenna Systems.
