A Clean-up Room can serve multiple Operating Rooms or Procedure Rooms and should be located nearby to support post procedure processes.

~ Clearance around the surgical waste management system and docking station, as informed by equipment specifications, is to be maintained at all times. ~ The requirement to provide a door to this room will vary across jurisdictions and is to be confirmed to suit local infection prevention and control policies. ~ Number, size and type of bins, including sharps, to be confirmed to suit waste management policies and service requirements. ~ Provision of cleaner's sink to be confirmed to suit operational policies and service requirements. ~ Type of spout provided to handwashing basin (i.e. gooseneck, straight, etc.) to be confirmed to meet local infection prevention and control policies. ~ Backflow prevention device requirements to be confirmed for all hydraulic fixtures to suit service requirements. ~ Air-conditioning and exhaust requirements to be confirmed to suit service requirements (i.e. extent of gross decontamination of instruments occurring within this room), operational processes (e.g. frequency of waste removal), and equipment selection.
