Bay - Beverage

Standard Area4
Ceiling Height2700mm

Briefing

Description
The Beverage Bay is an area for preparation (including heating as required) of refreshments, snacks and small meals, washing some utensils, storing small mounts of food and drink and disposing of food waste (in accordance with food hygiene requirements).
Hours of Operation
Up to 24 hours (dependent on unit operating hours)
Occupancy
1-2 persons intermittently;
Additional Considerations
~ Beverage bays may allocated to patient care areas, staff areas and meeting/education facilities. ~ Ready access to a handwashing basin is recommended. ~ If an instantaneous boiling water tap/unit is provided, it should be hardwired and access restricted to the unit e.g. within cupboard. If system is located within a joinery unit, ensure appropriate ventilation is provided. ~ A side approach to the sink for wheelchair access has been shown; front access may be required depending on local/jurisdictional policies and service requirements. ~ The Beverage Bay should be adequately recessed to avoid encroachment into the corridor. If the space is to be enclosed and/or access is restricted, an increase in area is required. The door will require an observation panel. ~ Size, type and quantity of waste bins is dependent on environmental management policies and service requirements. Where a facility has additional waste streams, beyond the general waste and comingled recycling indicatively shown in this Standard Component, additional area may be required to accommodate the receptacles. Depending on frequency of waste removal, bin sizes may be larger in high use areas or as guided by local waste management policies. Joinery to conceal bins may be provided depending on infection prevention and control policies. ~ Fridge dimensions will vary depending on selection and service requirements; clear area provided for the fridge is to allow for adequate ventilation and full opening of door ~ Provision and type of ice machine will be dependent on service requirements and local infection prevention and control policies.
